Abstract

Matanzas is, without any doubt, one of the provinces that more contributions has made to the development of the science. Many of the persons born in this province have being universally recognized scientific glories, among them, Dr. Oscar Luis Amoedo y Valdez, (1863–1945), university professor, writer, polyglot, investigator, inventor, precursor and creator of the Legal Dentistry, science to which he made uncountable contributions, like his magisterial work “Dental art in Legal Medicine”. He was member of almost all the Medico-Dental Societies and Scientific Academies of the world; in recognition of his merits he received many prizes and decorations, leading him to be recognized as “the first one of the Cuban dentists”.
