The Urinary Tract Infection is not only the most frequent bacterial infection but also the most common kidneys and urinary channels disease during pediatric ages; it is also a scorer or a sign of subjacent anatomic or functional anomalies. Starting from these aspects, a retrospective, descriptive and applied research has been made at the Matanzas University Hospital “Eliseo Noel Camaño”, in the period from January 1st, 2003 to December 1st, 2007, with the objectives of characterizing this disorder. As the result, it is been proved that the Urinary Tract Infection seems to appear more frequently in children under one year old, specially females, except for the neonatal period in which males are more affected. Fever was the main symptom of this affection. The most observed predisposing factors were: age under one year old, nutritional status under 10 percentile, vesicaureteral reflux, hipoplasia or dysplasia, urethrahydronephrosis and vulvavaginitis because of intestinal parasitism. The Escherichia coli was the microorganism responsible of most of the Urinary Tract Infections found in this investigation.Downloads
