Abstract

Suicide has become a serious health problem at the international level and our country is not an exception. That is why we carried out a retrospective, transversal, descriptive study, with the objective of determining the main factors that most frequntly are reflected in the suicidal behavior in Cardenas. The universe was formed by 489 patients reported by the EDO cards and the sample were 186. We applied an inquiry to the patients and to the relatives of the deceased ones to identify the risk facts. Data were analized in MS Excel; their absolute frequency, percentage, ratio, rate and Chi 2 were presented with a 95 % of confidence interval and statistical significance of alpha < 0,05. The results showed that the suicidal intent was more frequent in women with secondary scholarship, housewives or students, single or divorced, and as suicidal method they took pills. Among men, suicide was predominant in the third age, pensioned, divorced or widowed, and they used the method of hanging themselves.
