This is an epidemiologic descriptive study where we made an analysis of the lost life years of the deceases less than 80 years old, obtaining the tendency in proportion of mortality for this age group, and the tendency of average lost life years for each decease at the province of Matanzas, during the periods 1990-1995-2000-2006. We grouped the death causes in four groups: deceases for common risk factors: group I -hypercholesterolemia, smoking, sedentarism, unhealthy diet, alcoholism, and hypertension; group II- all kind of cancers; group III- violent and auto-inflicted lesions; and group IV- respiratory causes. There is a decreasing tendency in the proportion of deceased less than 80 years olds, being 65, 4 % in 1990 decreasing to 58,5 % in 2006; The average lost life years per deceased also decreased from 19,1 to 16,9 years. 31,1 % of the lost life years in less than 80 years old deceased corresponded to persons of the group I, with an average of 13,2 %, followed by group II with 29,6 % and an average of 16,4 % of lost life years, group III with 13,5 % and a high average of 30,4 years, and finally group IV with 6,3 % and 15,7 of average. We stratified 85.8 % of the deceases less than 80 years old, representing 81, 6 % of the lost life years, being a working potential to gain years of life expectancy, through planning actions of public health interventions, with all the government sectors and institutions.Downloads
