Introduction: Society demands highly trained dental professionals. Likewise, terminal efficiency is an indicator of higher education management that evaluates the performance of academic programs.
Objective: To determine the terminal efficiency of graduates of the master's and doctoral programs of a Faculty of Dentistry in a Peruvian University, in the period 2017-2022.
Methods: Cross-sectional study based on records from the database of the Academic Secretariat of the Graduate School of the Faculty of Stomatology of the Peruvian University (Universidad Peruana) Cayetano Heredia. Subsequently, the institutional repository was accessed to include data that supported the theses of the graduates in the period 2017-2022. Statistical tests were conducted according to the variables.
Results: During the period studied, there were a total of 164 graduates, who belonged to the master's and doctoral programs, of which 24.40% (n= 40) had a research work presented. Half of the graduates from both programs maintained a terminal efficiency of ≤1 year.
Conclusions: The average terminal efficiency of graduates from master's and doctoral programs of a Peruvian Faculty of Dentistry from 2017-2022 was 1.52 years, taking into account that half of the graduates had a research work to generate an academic degree within one year after graduation. Finally, the group of graduates in 2018 showed positive values for this indicator.
