Postoperative Pain in Hysterectomy and Its Control with Multimodal Analgesia by Continuous Infusion

Introduction: Hysterectomy is an effective procedure which is associated with significant postoperative pain. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the use of continuous infusion pump with multimodal analgesia for pain management in patients undergoing hysterectomy.
Objective: To evaluate postoperative pain control using continuous infusion pump analgesia in patients undergoing hysterectomy.
Methods: An observational, retrospective study was conducted in 120 women who underwent surgery at the General Hospital Enrique Garcés (Quito, Ecuador) during 2022. An infusion pump with metamizole, tramadol, and hyoscine was used. Pain was evaluated at three postoperative time points (T0, T1, T2) using the visual analogous scale.
Results: 82.5% of patients did not require rescue medication. A significant reduction in pain was observed between T1 and T2 (p<0.001). The need for additional medication was associated with higher scores on the analog visual scale.
Conclusion: Continuous infusion pump proved effective in the control of postoperative pain in hysterectomy, especially in patients under 60 years without comorbidities. It is recommended to standardize this strategy as part of a multimodal analgesic approach.
