Research culture in residents of the medical science: documentary reflections to optimize decisions

Abstract

In the 21^st century, there is a transnational consensus that underscores the imperative need for a robust research culture among healthcare professionals, which is essential for quality care and sustainable development. Despite this, the effective integration of research into residency training faces challenges, especially in the rigorous application of biostatistics. Entities such as the World and Pan-American Health Organizations, and UNESCO, and the Economic and Social Policy Guidelines of the Communist Party in Cuba, emphasize this context. This opinion article proposes, therefore, to reflect, from a biostatistical perspective, on key documents for fostering a research culture in residents of the medical science to optimize decisions. It is concluded that, without a solid understanding of biostatistics, the aspiration for evidence-based medicine is compromised, and the ability of future professionals to generate valid knowledge, critically interpret it, and apply it optimally is considerably weakened.
