One hundred fifty five case histories during the years 1995-2000 have been reviewed. These patients were selected from the Service of Cervix Uteri Patholoy in the Gyneco-Obstetric Hospital in Matanzas and they were initially diagnosed with moderate dysplasia (CIN II),severe dysplasia(CIM III) and Carcinoma in Situ(CIS). The cytological and histological diagnoses by biopsy were correlated. Results were tabulated in order to demonstrate how the value of cytologic smears is a useful method for diagnosis. This study was also useful to identify the different pre-neoplasic disorders in the cervix and we werw able to show the importance of the infection by the Human Papilloma Virus(HPV) in these types of cervical lesions. One of the main purposes of this work was to informa all women who are at most dangerous years, about the importance of the cytologic tst every three years to irritially detect each of these lesions.
