Abstract

We identify the behavior of same prognostic factors in cerebrovascular ictus. A descriptive, retrospective and longitudinal study was perfomed to 180 patients hospitalized for cerebrovascular ictus in the Intermediate Care Unit at Matanzas Militar University Hospital, during the 1997-1999 period, showing the results in graphic tables.

These demonstrated an increase of those deceased according to age groups, being most significant in 65 year old patients or older 63,26%. In the total of hospitalized patients the embolic and atheroesclerotic ischemic ictus predominated (77,23%) against the hemorrhagic one (22,77%).

The prognostic clinical factors most frequently found in deceased patients were advanced age, 48-72 hours coma post admission, load, hyperglicemia bilateral Babinsky signs and intrahospital acute myocardial infarct. A 27,2% letalily rate was determined. We conclude on the need to profaund in the study of the ictus pronostic factors, given the therapeutic implication that the knowledge of these factors generates to improve the survical and life quality.
