Extrapiramidal Syndrome induced by neuroleptics.

The psychopharmacs are drugs that are used in mental sickness treatment because of their determine importance effects upon the psychic functions. Among them the neuroleptics are characterized of being anti-psychotic drugs and they provoke extrapiramidal manifestations. With the objective to make a valuation of the behavior of the extrapiramidal syndrome, a descriptive study was done with 55 patients with mental disorders, that were in the Psychiatric Hospital Antonio Guiteras from Matanzas , in a period between January and march 2004. The clinic history were used as instruments to obtain information and a valuation of different necessary variables for this study was done, among them to know the neuroleptic treatment, to determine the number of patients that present extrapiramidal reactions, its types and conducts. Afterwards, a comparison of the consumption of trihexyphenidyl before and after was done. Lists were made for the analysis of the results to answer the objectives. A great number of patients were using neuroleptic. Sharp extrapiramidal reactions appear in a scarce number. The more frequent was the sharp dystonia. The adopted behavior was sedation with anxiolytics and antihistamines.Downloads
